Cardiff Castle Wedding Photography

Helen & Jordan’s Cardiff Castle Wedding – A Day of Magic, Storms & Fire!

If ever a wedding captured the magic of Cardiff Castle, it was Helen and Jordan’s. A day of thunderstorms, golden sunshine, medieval splendour, and fire-juggling finales, it felt like something straight out of a legend. From a horse-drawn carriage arrival to a Handfasting in the Undercroft, and a feast fit for royalty in the Banqueting Hall, this wedding was nothing short of unforgettable.

A Grand Wedding Arrival at Cardiff Castle – Bridal Prep & Horse-Drawn Carriage

Helen’s morning started at a beautiful Cardiff hotel, where the excitement built as final touches were made. Outside, awaiting her grand entrance to the castle, was a stunning horse and carriage—the perfect fairy-tale arrival. As she stepped inside, the skies opened with a downpour of rain, thunder rolling overhead—a truly cinematic start to the day!

Handfasting in the Undercroft – A Ceremony Steeped in Tradition

The Undercroft at Cardiff Castle was the perfect setting for Helen and Jordan’s handfasting ceremony—an ancient tradition symbolizing unity. Surrounded by candlelight and historic stone walls, they tied the knot (quite literally!) in the most enchanting way.

A bride and groom walk down an aisle at a wedding ceremony in an ornate venue, holding hands and smiling. The groom holds colorful ribbons. Guests seated on either side watch.

Drinks, Sunshine & Storms in the Castle Grounds

As the newlyweds stepped out into the castle grounds, the weather gave us everything—bursts of golden sunshine, dramatic clouds, and even a quick hailstorm. The ever-changing skies made for the most atmospheric photos as guests sipped drinks, explored the castle, and celebrated in true medieval style.

Portraits in Cardiff Castle’s Arab Room & Library

With the weather shifting by the second, we took full advantage of Cardiff Castle’s Arab Room—arguably one of the most breathtaking rooms in Wales. Its intricate gold ceiling and rich textures made for the dreamiest portraits. We also stole a quiet moment in the Castle Library, where the warm, historic charm added a romantic, storybook feel to their couple’s portraits.

A Banquet Fit for Royalty & A Fiery Finale

The Banqueting Hall set the scene for a wedding breakfast like no other—long tables, flickering candlelight, and medieval décor creating an atmosphere straight out of a fantasy novel. But the night wasn’t over yet—flame jugglers lit up the castle grounds, closing the evening in the most dramatic fashion.

The History of New House Hotel

Cardiff Castle is one of Wales’ most iconic landmarks, with a history stretching back nearly 2,000 years. Originally built as a Roman fort in the 1st century, it later became a Norman stronghold in the 11th century, with the impressive stone Keep still standing today. In the 19th century, the castle was transformed into a Gothic Revival masterpiece by the Marquess of Bute, with architect William Burges designing its opulent interiors—most famously, the Arab Room, Banqueting Hall, and Library. Today, Cardiff Castle is a breathtaking blend of history and fantasy, making it one of the most unique wedding venues in Wales.. And that’s where Bobbie Lee Photography comes in—specialising in relaxed, natural Cardiff wedding photography, I know exactly how to make the most of the venue’s stunning backdrops, soft golden light, and intimate moments. If you want wedding photos that feel authentic, emotional, and full of joy, you’re in the right place!
